What Does EMD Stand For?

EMD stands for – Electronic Miscellaneous Document

Electronic Miscellaneous Document (EMD) is a new industry standard that allows agents to issue electronic documents and accept payment for various additional services associated with air travel. Like an electronic ticket, EMD involves creating an appropriate record (unlike vMCO, when the actual record of the vMCO document itself is not stored anywhere) on the server of the validating airline.

What is EMD?

With the help of EMD, travel agencies can electronically pay for various additional services and fees related to travel (as well as the amount of refundable difference in exchange) and track their use (e.g., fees for excess baggage, exchange fees, access to the business bed, group deposit, refunds at the lower class of service, etc.) EMD is the most up-to-date solution in the travel industry in the field of electronic paperwork. It is designed to replace the standard ISO (Miscellaneous Charges Order, 0,’), including vMCO and VMPD. With EMD, you can:

Accept payment for various services and fees, deposits for groups, fines for exchange, etc.

Make an electronic document and print information about it on a printer, and send it to email.

Automatically add information about paid fees to Envoys, the sales report, the agency’s accounting system, etc.

EMDs are of two types:

EMD-S (EMD-Standalone) is used to pay for services and/or charges that are not tied to flight segments, for example, exchange fee, group deposit, business class provision, etc.

EMD-A (EMD Associated), as a rule, is used to pay for services directly related to the implementation of flight or service on board, for example, food, payment for excess baggage, escort minor children, booking a seat in the cabin, etc.
